Eugene Gouws

Director

Eugene was born in Welkom in 1965 and matriculated in 1983 at Welkom Gimnasium. He obtained his private pilots license at the age of 17 and completed his National Service in the South Africa Airforce.

As a director at the firm, Eugene is mainly involved in commercial law, contracts, conveyancing and administration of deceased estates. He is also a director in the firm’s property practice group, involved in property transfers and bond registrations.   

He obtained his B.Proc degree from the Freestate University, completed his articles at Hill Mchardy & Herbst, and was admitted as an attorney in 1992, and as conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa in 2006.  

Eugene joined Maree & Partners (Hennenman) in 1992 and opened an office for Hill McHardy Herbst in Welkom in 1993. In 1994 Eugene bought the Welkom office and practiced for his own account under the name Hill Mchardy & Gouws Inc. until Maree & Partners (Henneman, Virginia and Welkom) and Hill McHardy & Gouws Inc. amalgamated as Maree Gouws Attorneys (Henneman, Virginia and Welkom) in 2000. Eugene served as director of the said firms until he re-joined Hill Mchardy & Herbst Inc. as director in 2007.  

For Eugene, quality of service, a strong work ethic and his reputation are very important. With over 27 years of general law practice and management, litigation, deceased estates and property experience, he is able to give legal advice to clients. He is known for his high standard of service to clients.

Eugene is involved in his local community and for several years, served on different church and school governing bodies, was a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court,  and is still serving on boards of Cycling clubs and Cycling SA. In his spare time, Eugene is a keen traveller and cyclist.
